The 2018 Global Results Framework shows United Way's impact in PA

United Way Worldwide's Global Results Framework data tells a great story about the work United Ways are doing across our state, the nation and the world. From this report, which represents the impact of 9 local United Ways in Pennsylvania, we know the following:
  • Across Pennsylvania, over $8 million has been invested in childhood success
  • Over 20,000 children are enrolled in high-quality pre-k programs sponsored by United Way
  • Over 10,000 people have recieved job skills training
  • 103,000 people have been able to access affordable housing, financial products, and services through United Way
  • 31 million dollars has been issued in tax refunds through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program and Myfreetaxes.com
This year, nine United Ways from across Pennsylvania reported into the GRF. Thank you to the following United Ways for contributing to this data!
  • United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley
  • United Way of Berks County
  • United Way of the Wyoming Valley
  • United Way of York County
  • United Way of the Capital Region
  • United Way of Southwestern PA
  • United Way of Lackawanna and Wayne Counties
  • Lycoming County United Way
  • United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey
This data is invaluable in showing the impact United Ways have on the well-being Pennsylvanians, and how we partner or support various programs which also receive public investments.

Is your United Way interested in adding your data next year? It's never too early to start planning to do so. Please contact UWP's Member Service Coordinator  Amanda Barbarich for more information!

UWP 2019-20 legislative public policy survey due September 14!

With the new legislative session for 2019-2020 approaching quickly, UWP is working to update our public policy priorities and agenda.  These priorities will drive our advocacy agenda during this legislative session. It is important for us to take into account what policy priorities are important to our members and your communities.

To get your feedback, we have created a survey to collect your input on the priorities that matter most to your United Way and communities. The survey is due on Friday, Sept. 14th. We value your feedback to help shape our advocacy moving into the next legislative session!

In order to better serve our members we encourage you to complete this survey on your advocacy wants/needs.  If you have any questions regarding this survey please contact Maggie.

North Carolina 2-1-1's innovative partnership to address social determinants of health

United Way of North Carolina's 2-1-1 has partnered with United Us, Benefits Data Trust and Expound Business systems to provide the NC Resource Platform, which is called NCCARE360. The platform is a new tool to make ot easier for insurers, providers and community-based organizations to connect people with the community resources they need to be healthy. The work is funded by the Foundation for Health Leadership and Innovation.

According to a press release about the project, "The NC Resource Platform will be open at no cost to all North Carolinians, systems, payers, and providers. It will be a robust, integrated resource database, website, call center, and care coordination platform for clinicians, social workers, care coordinators, families and others to connect people to the community resources they need. Additionally, the platform will connect community-based organizations to each other across the State so they can collaborate, while allowing for the tracking of system-wide outcomes and supporting system improvement."

NC 2-1-1 was tapped for this project to offer expertise in connecting families across the state to free and confidential information, and their experience to managing a statewide resource database and call center.

ALICE Commitment  forms due soon

UWP is gearing up to launch Pennsylvania's first ALICE report in June 2019.  We have been working hard to prepare for the release and secure commitments from local United Ways across the state to invest in the report, data, and the added tools/trainings available to fully participating partners.

Our office has sent commitment forms to every United Way in the state, with our ask for the financial investment from your community, which is largely based upon your area's population and campaign size. These forms are due by September 15th, however your financial contribution will not be due until May 2019.

The PA ALICE report is going to drive a lot of what UWP is engaged in for the coming years, including our advocacy efforts.  ALICE is also a great resource for your communities to understand how working families are struggling to make ends meet and do not qualify for help from other resources because they are over the income level needed. UWP will help our ALICE-supporting members identify and implement successful programs to help the 42% of Pennsylvanians who are ALICE along a path to financial stability. ALICE lives in all geographical areas of our state and is vital to the fabric of our communities. Help us give a platform to ALICE!

Please reach out to Maggie if you have any questions regarding your commitment or the ALICE project.
