What's Happening at United Way?

3rd Annual Hill Day!

On Tuesday April 9th, United Way of PA is holding its 3rd annual Hill Day!

UWP staff and United Way members from across the state will be heading up to the capitol to advocate on behalf of policy priorities important to our network.  United Way's three priorities for the 2019-2020FY budget include PA 2-1-1, high-quality Pre-K, and high-quality child care.

More specifically, we are asking legislators to support the following budget investments:
  1. $1.5 million state investment in PA 2-1-1 to serve out communities with health and human services information and referrals
  2. $50 million state investment to give 5,500 more 3- and 4- year olds access to high-quality Pre-K and Head Start ($40 million for Pre-K and $10 million for Head Start).
  3. $50 million investment in new state funds to ensure the healthy development of 10,000 infants and toddlers by paying STAR 3 and 4 providers closer to the cost of high-quality care.
Be on the lookout on April 9th for posts on social media about our Hill Day, and feel free to share some of your own as well!

Take Action!

We also need our strong network of advocates to help us advocate for the common good! Please take action to encourage your local legislators to support policies important to United Way's mission! Here is our call-to-action for our advocates to send a letter to their local legislators. Please take the time to send and share this link with your friends!

On our website, we are also collecting stories about people experiencing financial struggles in the Commonwealth.  Please help us spread the word about our new Call to Action on Financial Struggles! You can find the call to action here . We aim to collect as many stories as we can by the end of April. Please share this link on your social media channels to help us collect stories!
