Our 2019 conference will be hosted in State College, PA June 5th-7th! State College is at the center of the state and is most famously the home of Penn State University. Penn State is more than just a college town, though! There are tons of things to do in State College. You can explore various indoor and outdoor recreation activities like mountain biking, golf, and fishing. There are also options for arts & culture, such as The State Theatre, Tussey Mountain Amphitheatre, and the Bryce Jordan Center, offering performing arts including dance, theatre & live music as well as film festivals and screenings.
Our conference will be at the Days Inn by Wyndham Penn State. The hotel is just steps away from all the best nightlife, restaurants, and shopping that State College's vibrant downtown can offer. United Way of PA has negotiated a group rate with the hotel of $85/night starting June 4th and running through the night of June 6th. Book early - there are a limited number of rooms available and all reservations must be made by May 10, 2019. Once rooms are booked in the block, reservations will be made on a space available basis at public rates.

United Way of Pennsylvania is committed to providing an affordable, quality conference. Below are the rates for 2019 which include Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner on both June 5th and 6th and Breakfast on June 7th.
Early Bird Registration (Beginning April 4th, 2019)
- $85 for ALICE® Bootcamp* ONLY on Wednesday, June 5th
- $250 for non-ALICE United Ways who wish to attend UWP's Conference on Thursday, June 6th and Friday, June 7th
- $300 which includes ALICE Bootcamp* and UWP Conference
Regular Registration (Beginning May 7th, 2019)
- $100 for ALICE Bootcamp* ONLY on Wednesday, June 5th
- $280 for non-ALICE United Ways who wish to attend UWP's Conference on Thursday, June 6th and Friday, June 7th
- $340 which includes ALICE Bootcamp* and UWP Conference

United Way PA Hill Day Recap
On April 9th, UWP staff and about twenty members and volunteers from local United Ways took to the Capitol to advocate on behalf of the policy priorities that are most important to our network at our third annual Hill Day.
United Way's three priorities for the 2019-2020FY budget include PA 2-1-1, high-quality Pre-K, and high-quality child care.
More specifically, we asked legislators to support the following budget investments:
- $1.5 million state investment in PA 2-1-1 to serve out communities with health and human services information and referrals
- $50 million state investment to give 5,500 more 3- and 4- year olds access to high-quality Pre-K and Head Start ($40 million for Pre-K and $10 million for Head Start).
- $50 million investment in new state funds to ensure the healthy development of 10,000 infants and toddlers by paying STAR 3 and 4 providers closer to the cost of high-quality care.
We met with dozens of legislators who play key roles in education, human services, appropriations committees, and more. We created several social media posts across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn, which accumulated nearly 5,000 views and over 500 engagements. Thank you to all our members who helped us advocate for the health, education, and financial stability of all Pennsylvanians!

State revenues slightly exceeding expectations at the end of the third quarter
|
March revenue numbers are in and once again Pennsylvania is ahead of estimate.
Last month, Pennsylvania collected $4.6 billion in General Fund revenue in March, which was $76.1 million, or 1.7 percent, more than anticipated. Fiscal year-to-date General Fund collections total $24.7 billion, which is $363.6 million, or 1.5 percent, above estimate.
Since the start of the 2018-19 fiscal year, overall tax revenue is $1.2 billion, or 5.2 percent, more than was collected in the same period of the last fiscal year.
March and April are very important months for corporate taxes and personal income tax collections. Budget negotiators rely on these numbers to set the tone.
UWP is closely monitoring state revenue because a surplus in revenue for FY2018-2019 will certainly help the deficit for FY 2019-2020, which could impact the money to be received by United Way budget priorities.

Opportunities to engage in and promote Census work
|
The Pennsylvania Complete Count Commission is hosting a PA Census 2020 summit in Harrisburg on Monday, May 30 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Commonwealth Keystone building, 400 North Street, Harrisburg, PA. This is a summit for state government officials, local governments, stakeholders, advocates, faith-based organizations, higher education institutions and Census partners. RSVPs are requested by May 15. If you would like to attend, please send your interest to [email protected]. United Way of PA is a member of the Complete Count Commission, and will be participating in the summit.
The Pennsylvania State Data Center has set up a web site
https://pennsylvaniacounts2020.info/ with lots of great information to help the public understand what to expect in the Census, and a map which shows areas that have been low response areas in past Census.
The US Census Bureau is currently recruiting employees to assist with the 2020 Census. A web page has been established for the public to learn more about these opportunities at

United Way of PA is interested in supporting strategies which will lead to an accurate Census in PA. As local complete count committees begin meeting, we encourage our members to think about assets such as PA 2-1-1 which may be deployed to help.

www.uwp.org has been live since April 3rd. If you've been to visit it, you may have noticed the member login looks a bit different!
We're asking all United Way of Pennsylvania members to encourage their staff to sign up for a FREE user account on our website. This will give them an individual login and password to access:

- General member resources from United Way Worldwide that are hosted in one easy to find spot

Online and proxy voting for UWW Annual Meeting is open
|
The Annual Meeting of United Way Worldwide's (UWW's) membership will be held Wednesday, May 1, 2019 from 8-9am, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Each United Way member, with exception of State Associations per UWW's bylaws, is entitled to have one vote.
Members are being asked to approve nominations to the Worldwide and U.S.A. Boards of Trustees. Proxies are now available for CEOs and Chief Volunteer Officers to submit online or via mail.

UWW membership requirements due June 30
|
Annually, all United Ways in the U.S. must submit their membership certification, complete Database 2, and pay their annual membership investment (dues). The membership certification form is due June 30, 2019 and collected via DocuSign. If you are ready to get started and request your DocuSign link, click on the appropriate link below to request your form. The first person interacting with the form will receive their link within two days.

Partnership opportunity for United Ways: FamilyWize and Walmart Wellness Days
|
Leaders from FamilyWize and UWW held a webinar on April 4
th to announce an opportunity to partner with FamilyWize and Walmart around Walmart's Wellness Days. Walmart's Wellness Days occur at each of Walmart's 6,363 locations across the US between 10am and 2pm on a quarterly basis and will serve as excellent relationship-building opportunities with local Walmart stores. The next Walmart Wellness Day is on Saturday, April 27, 2019, followed by events on July 20 and September 21.
Walmart Wellness Days include free health screenings (i.e. glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure, BMI, etc.), and plenty of health tips/coupons and giveaways, including
FamilyWize's Prescription Savings Cards
.
Local United Ways will be asked to drive constituents to these free Health opportunities via marketing and social materials that can be accessed HERE and HERE, along with a hashtag to measure shares, tweets, and impressions.
