Celebrating VITA Volunteers and the Power of Partnership with PA 211

United Way of Pennsylvania is proud to recognize the dedicated volunteers and partners who made the 2024 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) season a success—and to highlight the critical role that PA 211 played in helping connect thousands of Pennsylvanians to this valuable service.

Through a strong partnership between local United Ways, community organizations, and PA 211, individuals and families across the Commonwealth were able to schedule free, high-quality tax preparation appointments quickly and easily. This seamless connection between trusted resource navigators and local VITA sites allowed more people to access the help they needed—when they needed it most.

Here’s what we accomplished together:

  • 22,406 tax appointments scheduled through PA 211
  • 61 VITA sites across 13 counties
  • $4.48 million saved on tax preparation fees (based on an average of $200 per return)
  • $31.7 million in total refunds returned to hardworking Pennsylvanians

This success is powered by the dedication of VITA volunteers who gave their time and expertise to ensure accurate returns and maximize tax credits for individuals with low to moderate income, as well as those who are over the age of 60. Their efforts not only support household financial stability—they also bring millions of dollars back into local communities.

VITA is a clear example of how cross-sector collaboration, data-informed outreach, and compassionate volunteerism can improve lives. PA 211’s scheduling support ensured equitable access, while VITA volunteers delivered one-on-one assistance with care and precision.

To every volunteer, community partner, and supporter who made this possible: THANK YOU! Your work strengthens financial resilience across Pennsylvania and demonstrates the impact we can have when we work together.
