Mission
United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley envisions communities where every person belongs and every person thrives.
Vision
We fight for the health, safety and education of every person in the Greater Lehigh Valley.
Key Focus Areas
We identify the community’s greatest challenges and create lasting, measurable results by investing in solutions in Education, Healthy Aging and Community Stability.
Our Programs
When schools have the resources they need and can offer them in a coordinated manner, kids are better equipped to learn, grown and succeed. United Way Community Schools support student success in the region’s highest need schools by removing barriers to education, so students, families and communities can thrive. Each school is staffed by a full-time Community School Coordinator who addresses basic needs, promotes family engagement, builds partnerships and coordinates services.
When children experience trauma, they learn that the world and the adults around them aren’t safe or predictable.
Handle With Care is a very simple communication between schools and police to better support students exposed to traumatic events.
Resilient Lehigh Valley is a community-driven effort to promote hope, healing and resilience in youth, families and communities through building a trauma-informed Lehigh Valley.
To date, Resilient Lehigh Valley has provided trauma-informed care training to more than 15,000 educators, health-and-human-service professionals, law-enforcement members and parents, achieved a dramatic increase in the number of Lehigh Valley schools now adopting a trauma-informed model and launched a regional Handle With Care partnership with schools and first responders to better support children exposed to traumatic events, receiving over 900 Handle With Care referrals since its launch in 2020.
Older adults who participate in senior center programs can delay the onset of chronic illnesses and improve their physical, mental, social, spiritual, emotional and economic well-being. Strong social connections, in particular, are linked to better overall health outcomes and enhanced quality of life.
However, many older adults in the Lehigh Valley face barriers to accessing essential services and resources. Community hubs serve as gathering places where seniors can connect, engage and access support systems that improve their quality of life.
United Way has established 11 Community Hubs to further enhance seniors’ well-being by offering food assistance, health care services and community-driven programs that foster connection and long-term wellness:
