Take Action on the State Budget Impasse

UWP, along with other critical service providers including nonprofits, county agencies, and for-profit organizations from across the Commonwealth, came together to form the Budget Impasse Coalition in response to the ongoing state budget impasse and its growing impact on communities.

The recent Budget Impasse Survey collected responses from more than 100 organizations representing all 67 counties and all have the same message — our communities and the organizations that support them need a state budget. Pivotal community infrastructure is being forced to cut or scale back programs essential to all community members. The Coalition sent a letter to Governor Shapiro and Members of the Pennsylvania General Assembly on September 22 calling for action. We need your help to amplify our voice.

Here is how your United Way can take action:

  1. Show Up at the Capitol – Join UWP and coalition partners for a press conference on the steps of the Main Rotunda in the Harrisburg Capitol at 9:00AM on Thursday, October 2. Wear your LUW branded attire. A strong presence will demonstrate the real impact of this impasse on our communities.
  2. Complete the Budget Impasse Survey – If you have not yet done so, complete the Budget Impasse Survey and encourage your partners to do the same. Data collected by September 26 will be included in the press conference story, and ongoing analysis will continue to highlight the challenges organizations are facing.
  3. Contact your Lawmakers – Use UWP’s Legislative Action Center to contact your state elected officials and urge them to pass a budget. The prepared message can be customized to include your personal or organizational story, and we encourage you to share this tool with your staff, volunteers, and community partners.

We need your help to amplify the urgent call for lawmakers to pass a budget that sustains the vital services our communities need.
