Mission
United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania improves lives by mobilizing the caring power of community. Working with individuals, businesses and organizations, we help people in Allegheny, Butler, Westmoreland, Fayette and Armstrong counties to measurably improve their lives and create long-lasting change for the betterment of our community.
Vision
Our goal is to keep more people working; more families safe and healthy; more individuals of all ages and abilities in their own homes living independently; and provide major economic value for our region.
Key Focus Areas
United Way partners with hundreds of local nonprofits to meet the needs of families and individuals in our community, from housing and securing meaningful employment to education and services for older adults. When you donate to United Way, you are making it possible for us to address many critical needs in our community. Giving without restrictions as to which agencies or causes will benefit gives us the flexibility needed to rise to the greatest challenges facing our community at any given time.
Our Programs
Many hard-working people feel overwhelmed by the challenges of providing for their family. They want to do more than just get by; they’re looking for an opportunity to get ahead and make a better life for their family. United Way tackles issues that confront people of all abilities to find and access meaningful employment. In addition, we help families gain a financial foothold by overcoming challenges of childcare, transportation and budget planning.
With the right resources and personal support, every child has the chance to succeed. United Way works to level the playing field for communities of color and supports quality out-of-school programs to help children form healthy habits and develop critical learning skills. We promote programs that recruit and provide strong mentors and role models to help students achieve academic and social growth.
