United Way Advocates for a Stronger Pennsylvania at the State Capitol

On May 13, United Way of Pennsylvania led a day of advocacy at the State Capitol in Harrisburg, bringing together community voices from across the Commonwealth to speak up on critical issues that affect everyday Pennsylvanians.
Representatives from the United Way and PA 211 networks joined forces to meet with state lawmakers. Their goal: to advocate for policies that help families meet their basic needs, access essential resources, and build a stronger future.
The group focused on three key priorities:
- Increased funding for PA 211, a free, 24/7 resource that connects people to local health and human services.
- Support for the Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit, which would help more families keep up with the rising cost of living.
- Greater investment in early childhood education, ensuring that every child in Pennsylvania has a strong start.
By sharing real stories and challenges from their communities, these advocates helped lawmakers understand how these policies make a difference in people’s lives. It was a powerful reminder that behind every statistic is a person, a family, and a community striving for stability.
But meaningful change doesn’t happen in a single day—it takes all of us. That’s why United Way of Pennsylvania encourages everyone to take action. Reach out to your state lawmakers and ask them to support funding for PA 211, the Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit, and early childhood education.
Together, we can help build a more equitable and supportive Pennsylvania for all.
