Pennsylvania Celebrates Passage of the Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit

Kristen Rotz, President of United Way of Pennsylvania, joined state leaders, community partners, and advocates at a press conference with the Governor’s Office to celebrate the passage of the Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit—a meaningful win for working families and ALICE households across the Commonwealth.

The event opened with remarks from Heidi Neuhaus, Director of the Volunteer Center at United Way of the Capital Region. Heidi recognized local VITA partner – Widener Law Commonwealth and the Central Pennsylvania Law Clinic – highlighted the impact of VITA services on working taxpayers, and shared how the new tax credit will support the families they serve. Her remarks underscored how policies truly can make a difference.

Heidi then formally welcomed and introduced Governor Josh Shapiro, paving the way for the Administration and legislative leaders to highlight the significance of this milestone.

Governor Josh Shapiro, Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis, Department of Revenue Secretary Pat Browne, House Speaker Joanna McClinton, Senator Patty Kim, Representative Christina Sappey, and Representative Justin Fleming each spoke about the significance of the new tax credit and the stability it will bring to working Pennsylvanians.

Kristen attended alongside other partners who have long supported efforts to strengthen financial stability for ALICE families. Her presence and participation underscored United Way of Pennsylvania’s ongoing commitment to advancing policies that reflect the real financial pressures on working households statewide.

The event marked an important milestone for the coalition of lawmakers, advocates, and community organizations who championed this policy—and a major step toward greater stability for Pennsylvania’s working families.
